World T'ai Chi Day
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and the City of Pittsburgh, in recognition of Still Mountain's ongoing efforts to teach T'ai Chi throughout Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, offered a proclamation making the final Saturday of April Pittsburgh's official World T'ai Chi Day as sponsored by Still Mountain in 2006.
The day always includes a wide-range of exercises from those for overall health, to ones that increase joint flexibility and counter arthritic pain. The idea behind Still Mountain's sponsorship of World T'ai Chi Day is to be true to the Buddhist and Taoist origins of T'ai Chi-where the exercises were used not so much to gain martial power but to develop compassion and other tools to be more spiritually attuned individuals. The workshops are offered in the spirit of helping all become healthier, happier, and more personally fulfilled.
World T'ai Chi Day is held every year at Bird Park from 10:00 to 12:00 AM. In case of rain, the event is held at the Unitarian Church of the South Hills in Mt. Lebanon. Despite the rain in 2007, the main room of the church was crammed with people, and over 100 people were in attendance to enjoy learning and doing T'ai Chi in 2007.
World T’ai Chi Day for 2009 will take place on Saturday, April 25th, from 10:00-12:00 at Bird Park, in Mt. Lebanon.
