World T'ai Chi Day
Still Mountain T'ai Chi and Chi Kung has hosted World T'ai Chi Day since 2003, when Dr. Clippinger first moved to Pittsburgh. World T'ai Chi Day, which is always held on the last Saturday in April, celebrates the spirit of T'ai Chi by offering free workshops and demonstrations so that everyone can reap the overall benefits of T'ai Chi.
This year the Mayor's Office of the City of Pittsburgh , in recognition of Still Mountain 's ongoing efforts to offer T'ai Chi to the people of Pittsburgh , offered a proclamation making the final Saturday of April Pittsburgh's official World T'ai Chi Day as sponsored by Still Mountain .
The day always includes a wide-range of exercises from those for overall health, to ones that increase joint flexibility and counter arthritic pain. The idea behind Still Mountain's sponsorship of World T'ai Chi Day is to be true to the Buddhist and Taoist origins of T'ai Chi-where the exercises were used not so much to gain martial power but to develop compassion and other tools to be more spiritually attuned individuals. The workshops are offered in the spirit of helping all become healthier, happier, and more personally fulfilled.
World T'ai Chi Day is held every year at Bird Park from 10:00 to 12:00 AM. This year the event was held at the Unitarian Church of the South Hills in Mt. Lebanon because of the rain. As photos of the 2007 event show, the main room of the church was crammed with people, and over 100 people were in attendance to enjoy learning and doing T'ai Chi.
