    ""T'ai Chi Yang Sword Seminar"" - Unitarian Universalist Church, 1240 Washington Road , Mt. Lebanon PA 15219The double-sided sword (or Gim) is called the King of T'ai Chi weapons, and this workshop will demonstrate why the sword forms are revered within T'ai Chi circles. This workshop will teach sword fundamentals as well as the first Yang Style T'ai Chi sword form. A good T'ai Chi sword is required since so much depends upon the proper weight, length, and balance of the blade in order to perform the moves correctly. The workshop requires that participants are familiar with T'ai Chi. The cost of the workshop is $50, which does not include a sword. T'ai Chi swords can be ordered at a discount through Still Mountain for the workshop.

On those days, universal chi is most harmonious, and by extension, they are ideal for extended meditative practice and T'ai Chi training. June 21st being the Summer Solstice, this workshop will focus upon a number of exercises to increase the flow fo the body's chi, which will include a Summer Chi Kung (qigong) set as well as exercises to harmonize and heal the body.

    ""Introduction to Zen Buddhism Six Week Class--Begins April 9th"" - Unitarian Universalist Church, 1240 Washington Road , Mt. Lebanon PA 15219This six week class will focus upon the history of Zen (Ch'an) in China, Japan, and the United States, as well as the practices developed by a range of practitioners including meditation, interviews, koan, and other techniques to facilitate "waking up." The class will be a valuable way for Zen practitioners to understand the history of meditative practice, and for those new to Buddhism, it will over insight into the philosophy of Zen and how those ideas can be incorporated into everyday existence. The class will include readings by and about the "Big Names" of Ch'an--Bodhidharma, Hui-Neng, Huang-Po, Chao-Chao, Lin-Chi, and others. The cost the class is $80 ($70 for those taking lay Buddhist vows at the end of the class). The fee for class includes all texts and materials.

    "Energizing Health: Traditional Chinese Medicine, T'ai Chi, and Chi Kung." - Magovern Auditorium, Allegheny General Hospital. "Energizing Health" will introduce the fundamental theories of traditional Chinese medicine such as Chi, Shen, and Jing, and discuss how T'ai Chi and Chi Kung, two "soft" martial arts, evolved in response to those theories. The talk will include demonstrations of exercises that have been taught in China for over 2000 years. In addition, the talk will cover some basics of T'ai Chi and Chi Kung, which are meditative exercises that incorporate slow, gentle movements with deep breathing in order to strengthen and heal the body, generate greater vitality and energy, and provide emotional and psychological relaxation.
